Are Gnostic Christians Atheists?
We're about to bust open the greatest riddle of all....
From The Secret Book of John, one of our holy scriptures, we answer the question of what “god” do Gnostic Christians “worship”?
(Cavet: This blog represents the thoughts and opinions of one human who identifies as a Gnostic Christian and a neo-ancient Christian householder. Before the establishment of “the church” there were many sects of Christianity, none more “correct” than the other. We walk with the teachings of Yeshua in this way.)
The Secret Book of John tells us the following:
He is the invisible Spirit, of whom it is not right to think of him as a god, or something similar. For he is more than a god, since there is nothing above him, for no one lords it over him. For he does not exist in something inferior to him, since everything exists in him. For it is he who establishes himself. He is eternal, since he does not need anything. For he is total perfection.
The “god” “worshipped” by a Gnostic Christian is not a god, nor does it require worship.
Let me repeat that again:
As a Gnostic Christian I do not believe in a “god” nor do I pray or give worship to gods.
“God” is simply shorthand for what I really think is going on. I use the term God and more frequently I will use the Jewish method of writing G_d or G-d, which I think is more accurate for what I believe in which is something higher than a “god”. Also I will refer to this eternality as “The One”.
Furthermore, this “eternality” has absolutely no need for my prayers or worship. The “Lord’s Prayer” given by Yeshua when asked by his disciples about how to pray is an acknowledgement of the eternality, and the Kingdom within us, which resides a fragment of The One or this eternality within us.
Let’s look at a few more descriptions from The Secret Book of John:
The One is incomprehensible Perfectly free from corruption.
Not “perfect” Not “blessed” Not “divine”
But superior to such concepts. Neither physical nor unphysical
Neither immense nor infinitesimal. It is impossible to specify in quantity or quality. For it is beyond knowledge.
It is outside of realms of being and time
For whatever is within realms of being was created
And whatever is within time had time allotted to it
The One receives nothing from anything.
It simply apprehends itself in its own perfect light
The One is majestic.
The One is measureless majesty
Chief of all Realms
Producing all realms
The ancient Christian author of this text describes The One as outside of what we understand as material spacetime. And The One as the author of all realms.
Are you ready to have your mind blown?
We now have a mathematical model for something we think exists outside of spacetime, a monolith of sorts (I suppose this is the best description, since it’s impossible to describe exactly what this thing is because it in fact is not a thing at all.) a “thing” called the amplituhedron. I suppose the easiest way to break this down, both for myself and non-physicists is that this “thing” sits outside of spacetime, outside of the material realm. What does it do, you might ask? According to the mathematics it generates realms. So it’s the mathematics behind particles in spacetime.
But calling it , “it” or a “thing” or asking what it does is totally inadequate because it cannot be described with any word or concept since it sits outside of spacetime and words and concepts are part of spacetime. Words and concepts are part of our material existence. And this is why all written texts, including holy texts like the canonical bible OR the gnostic scriptures are not infallible or inerrant.
Mathematics is the most accurate method of describing this “realm generator”, but even then it is material minds of spacetime don’t really know what they are looking at or calculating and they admit as much.
The bigger question which has been asked by physicists is if there is anything more fundamental than amplituhedron, something else even more fundamental that might be generating or emanating it. Amplituhedron then, could be an emanation of something else that is incalculable in this material realm.
Nevertheless, it’s a fun exercise to imagine ourselves here in the material realm of spacetime possessing a fragment of this higher dimensional multifaceted jewel within us!
